To be honest I can’t blame them for the ban. Chinese espionage is totally rampant and there is no IP too small for them to steal.

Yeah, ok. I’m sure Florida universities have things worth stealing that literally every business in the US doesn’t. This is performative at best. Racist at worst.

…do you have a fundamental misunderstanding of what kind of research happens at university labs, or are you just assuming none of it happens in Florida universities?

All of my lab’s data is available on public GitHub repos. My Chinese student doesn’t have a leg up on anyone with an internet connection. It’s insane to discriminate like that. I can sort of see issues with DoD funded work, but basic science?

          The latter seems likely.

But my point is actually that he’s (at best) trying to cover a single hole of a sieve. It’s not accomplishing anything.

If this were a real problem to be solved, it would need to be done at the federal level, and not just against Chinese nationals. If it really were a risk to the states, it should be all foreign nationals in all colleges.

Why don’t we just ban Chinese people from visiting America then? That seems like it would solve the problem.

The issue is their government’s encouragement if not enforcement of IP theft, not a person’s genetics.

I was going to say ‘ it’s not about culture’ but actually it is, because the culture of China currently is pretty toxic.

That’s just silly. This is about the CCP and their fucked-up ideas of weaponising every travelling citizen they can.

Chinese espionage is totally rampant> Chinese espionage is totally rampant

Please show me a reputable source documenting how rampant Chinese espionage is on university campuses and how they’re stealing American IPs.

I don’t have any to hand, sorry. Not going to go looking for your sake either. Search engines are available to you also.

I did a brief Google search prior to making my comment and found nothing, so I figured I’d ask you. It does seem like the kind of claim that someone would make based on mere prejudice. I take your refusal to provide evidence as a sign that it is, indeed, baseless.
