I hope this actually pans out, but I am suspicious that it won’t. Mostly just because of they way they have this air of tech bro hype around them; hopefully I just learned about it through poor sources because it would be freakin cool if it worked

Yeah perhaps they got bogged down with all the other stuff (graphics, music, settings, etc) and for that the story and mechanics suffered. Now that they have a game engine and experience, a second attempt might leave more time to flesh it out a bit more.

They also perhaps wanted to make it accessible but weren’t skillful at knowing how light to keep it.

It makes a little more sense with the context that “I’m down” is shortened slang for “I’ll throw down on that”, itself slang for “I will get in on this situation” (as in “throwing down” some money or chips when gambling)

If an attacker wants your encrypted data that bad, they will attack the running machine and use it to access the data, they will not steal a key and then attempt to physically remove the drive.

Drive encryption is for prevention of access when the drive is offline, it doesn’t protect a running system which can access that data.

If you are worried about the key being accessed while the machine is running, focus on hardening access to the machine via network, etc.
