Incentives for worker ownership of companies to move more major economic decisions into the hands of workers. Mandatory worker representation on boards of directors. Significant wealth and inheritance tax. A nationalized healthcare service. Public ownership of all utilities, including internet service. Bring back programs like the WPA and CCC to rebuild infrastructure. Entirely publicly funded elections. Overturn Taft-Hartley, overturn all “right to work” laws natonwide. I think all these things would help us transition to a more just, inclusive economy. That’s what democratic socialism is to me, and it’s not just social democracy.

I always thought it was pretty stupid that rage against the machine was criticized for simultaneously being anticapitalist and commercially successful. What do we want, commercially successful bands to all be bootlickers or completely apolitical? Much better to reach more people.

I had never used Instagram reels until recently but also found it pretty damned addictive once I did try them. The ease of access and variety of content is pretty compelling. Of course, it’s information junk food. Very little of intellectual value comes with it, and it’s quite mentally passive, so it’s a good idea to limit how much time you spend on it.

As somebody who’s been a vegetarian for twenty years but still has 200 LDL at age 37, this would be really great to just have fixed. Dumb genes.

I think they’re assuming retirement age will be raised by the time they retire.

No average year of IRA return will beat the 6.8% interest or more that a lot of us are paying on student loans debt.

I’m not a supporter of Israel but I keep seeing this claim. It seems disingenuous, though: is Israel supposed to avoid sending any aid into Gaza at all? If you want to send humanitarian aid, you’re always inadvertently helping the government of a place. Saying Israel funded Hamas suggests that Israel literally cuts checks to Hamas, the organization, which is misleading.

Of course, by this point any aid Israel has sent has been pretty well morally out balanced by their absolutely bloodthirsty attacks on Palestinian civilians.
