Meta can always profile you from the content you post to the fediverse, and they don’t need Threads to do it. In the fediverse, every upvote, every down vote, every comment, every ban, and everything else is a matter of public record that can be easily queried by anyone without logging in to anything.

There isn’t practically any way of blocking your content from being seen on another platform. It’s an arms race and you’ll always lose. Look at Reddit, they had a whole campaign to kill their API, and most of their quality content is reposted here through bots. If you post something on the internet, there it no way to ensure it doesn’t appear on Threads, where you posted the content originally doesn’t change that fact.

  • Bluetooth has never improved the user experience of connecting. It’s always been super annoying to keep track of connections. Bluetooth is limited to mp3 quality, aka 1/4 the quality of a CD, and that limit will never increase. We can do a little better with fancy codecs, but you’ll always be able to tell with good headphones. A headphone jack is still higher quality than any non-headphone jack alternative, and it will always be that way.

  • “Should AI art be copyrightable?” Is the wrong question. AI is a tool for people to make things. You might as well ask “Should art made in Photoshop be copyrightable?” When you put the two questions side by side, it becomes obvious that yes is the only logical general answer, but the more important thing is the actual process. I can make a drawing of Mario in Photoshop, but I don’t own the copyright for Mario. Meanwhile, I can make a unique logo in Photoshop and I can own the copyright. Simply saying “made with AI” isn’t sufficient for describing the process. For AI, copyrights in their source material and originality of the final product are complicated topics, so the only real solution is that the outputs of an AI will need to be handled on a case by case basis.
