I think my favourite implementation is Dead Space. All the inventory and map are diegetic and the world doesn’t pause to use them but the game does still have a pause function. Best of both worlds I think.

There was so much hope, everything was exciting and new. The world was getting better. Though I was <10 for most of the 90’s so maybe it was just being a kid.
Have a read of Fate core, there’s an SRD online for just the rules but the core book is great for GM advice, even if the system is way too meta for my taste now. Blades in the Dark also has some excellent GM advice and is currently my favourite game system. I’m running a Fate game currently with nothing pre written and Very minimal prep week to week.
Session zero players make characters and decide what elements they want to see in the world, vampires, Wizards, cults, werewolves. This gives me themes and factions to work with.
Between session 0 and 1 I did a fair bit of prep (like a couple hours) but only so far as main factions, key characters, goals and some aspects. Once you know who the key people are and what they want it’s pretty easy to plan, they will follow their goals unless the players get in the way somehow.
Then between each session all I need to do is think how the world reacts to the last session. Usually all that means is that someone now wants to kill the PC’s as top priority. My usual planning time is like 15 to 30 minutes, often less. Though I’m happy running a very improv heavy game and think I’m pretty good at coming up with interesting scenarios off the cuff. Some people benefit from having more groundwork laid out.
Regarding illusion of choice, I started like that: do you go left or right? It doesn’t matter I’ve made one map and it’s a circle so your going to the end whatever you do. I find my current way more fun, it’s less work and I get to be surprised by what happens as well. Yeah it’s frustrating if I have a cool idea and the players decide that the faction it translates to isn’t that exciting and don’t interact but given all ove done with that facton is named the leader thought about their resources and goals if it’s not used yet it’s not really a waste of my time.
Just to reassure you that you can run games without a module and with very minimal prep but the improv muscles need lost of practice.
I find shaving much more mediative with brush and hard soap. It took a little while to learn the technique and the directions my hair grows in but it’s a much more enjoyable process than with a cartridge razor and canned soap. Plus I can change my blade every 4 shaves or so and it’s like 10p a shave so much cheaper than cartridges.
Oh another Farscape would be awesome. Imagine what the creature shop could do today.
Slay the spire? It’s a deck builder rouge like. Excellent game. Dunno if it’s what your looking for but I highly recommend it.
All of it? You’d be there for days!
Jazz hands! Freaking excellent audio book.
Can’t you first go up to them and press action to swap guns?
I have set of Aftershockz and wear glasses every day. No problems here. I guess if your glasses are particularly thick framed they could get in the way but they would have to be very thick frames.
The very first thing we did on getting our Roomba was put googly eyes on it, then laugh as it bumped into things.
Ahha of course. I remember using this to mess with people when I was in school. Thank you
What did this do?
I’ve not met many poly groups but my experience was strained. First time meeting these people and the only thing they spoke about was them being poly and how much sex they were having. It was a bit odd for a first meeting with strangers. Not usual dinner conversation I felt.
Yup. It’s the principle the NHS runs on. Exploit the good will of the staff to cut costs. Hence the reason why everyone in the public sector in the UK is going on strike at the minute.
I’m in healthcare so 8 hour day probably has 9 hours of work in it. Lunch break if I’m lucky.
Steve is an adorable loving companion who will fight to the death to save his friends.
(He is also a giant creepy bug with huge teeth).
The film re roll. “We play through your favourite movies as roll playing games and totally ruin them”.
Just an excellent podcast. Can’t recommend it enough.
I’ve looked at a couple. I think you need a game system which catches your attention if your not particularly creative. They generally give you good prompts and have plenty of generators/ oracle’s to guide you.
Check out Ironsworn. I believe it’s free and it’s generally very well regarded. I’ve not played it myself yet but I’ve read most of the book and it seems very well put together.
I’m pretty sure you can make the g2 boot straight to steam vr at the moment so hopefully that will just become the default. Otherwise I’ll just have to stop updating my computer which is less ideal.
