And getting worse.
Yup. I’m Bo7a.
And getting worse.
I don’t think I was confusing the defed from blocking, I was confused about what you meant. Thanks for the clarification.
I am given to understand that I will still see the comments from threads users on lemmy. Just not the posts from threads.
Like I said, I don’t care what others do. But for me the correct answer is to not interact with users from that platform.
When I start seeing threads users in .world lemmy comment sections I will block .world.
My pleasure. TMYK!
I’m not comfortable with assuming the dregs of Facebook will leave Lemmy alone. I’ll stick to instances that have defederated and I’ll actively block instances that don’t.
I’m not out here trying to stop you from being on federated instances or anyone else. But I will not personally support instances that allow that monster into the ecosystem.
Fair. But I’m on lemmy for discussion. I don’t want threads’ bobbleheaded userbase fucking up every discussion thread on lemmy. So I will stay on instances that have de-federated that shithole and urge other instances to do the same.
Not quite the same result. Blocking the instance stops you seeing their posts, but not the comments coming from their users.
I would cherish that day!
It will probably happen if this capitalist wet-dream mellows a bit and government is incentivized to provide their own internet infra regardless of profit. But I am 45 and will probably be long decomposed by then.
But in the near-term - I can’t see any land-based ISP covering where I live.
The cost to run 15km of lines to town, when even power poles don’t exist, just to service me and the one other nutter who decided to live up here would be prohibitive even for govt funded public internet.
That starlink solves the remaining piece of missing infra that a normal person needs, regardless of the choice to live in a city or not. Even if the CEO is a blight on our species.
But I can build my own power and water infra. And I have. I can’t build my own connection to the internet, which I need to have in order to make money to do the rest of what it takes to live.
I would not be able to live where I am without starlink. There isn’t even cell signal for 14 km…
I don’t like that some portion of the money I’m paying goes towards his insanity. But I put up with it to live in a peaceful forest and continue my job.
For me it is the wholesale - “Everyone can do this, it is a moral failing on your part that you aren’t already vegan” that irks me.
I have a combination of diseases that mean I could never go vegan, but every single time I have interacted with a vegan online they take the stance that I am lying/wrong and just justifying my choices. Well - My choice is to not die of malnutrition while being tied to a toilet 24/7.
Like yes, random internet vegan - You certainly know my dietary needs better than my doctor and I do…
This is not evidence that the term is a slur.
This is the definitions of words which most everyone in this thread certainly already knew, strung together with your opinion that they are connected.
While this has been somewhat entertaining, I don’t think I’ll continue to feed your delusions any further.
I will not be replying again. Goodbye.
Care to provide any of that? Because so far all I have seen is your opinion, and a bunch of people disagreeing.
It sure seems like you’re in here trying to enforce your personal opinion that the word people are using is a slur.
You don’t get to decide what is a slur. Go away.
It may help if you think of it like any old-timey slang. You don’t use it more than once a year, but when IBM/MS/ORACLE/CISCO were using those tactics against open source in the earlier days of the public internet - It was used a lot.
With lemmy being somewhat skewed towards the technically-minded, and older crowd, it is something we used as a general word often enough that to a lot of us it is just another word, and not an obscure abbreviation/initialism.
I’m not sure about how accurate it is, but I read something a while back about it being the opposite in canada. You don’t spend more on smokers because they don’t live long enough to get to the really expensive part.
This is just a foggy memory so I’m definitely open to being corrected.
I mean… I’m not the OP but I don’t think people against meta/threads fear their idiot userbase. We just don’t want to deal with them. At all. Anywhere.
Or we’d have joined threads.
