I’ve been trying out The Universim recently. It has a lot of the same ideas, but gets rid of many which I felt didn’t work. Most notably, there is no creature bound to your will. I think the game is better for the omission. Version 1.0 is slated for January, and is supposed to include interplanetary colonization.

It’s worth noting that although piracy is up, the rates are still far lower than they were 20, 10 or even five years ago. Whether people continue to access content illegally remains to be seen – hopefully this is just a ‘blip’ and rates of theft begin to fall again as the economy recovers.

I’m happy to see this comment is being well received. I’ve been really frustrated with how this misinformation has been dismantling otherwise productive conversations on the topic. Yes, it will be described in exactly that way, but only in the wake of the next largest transfer of wealth from the middle class and the poor to the rich, which will get a shrug at best.
I’ve had similar frustration with conversations that focus on how devastating AI will be, without much mention of who is responsible or how to hold them accountable. One person compared my take to “guns don’t kill people, people kill people.” I feel like responsibility has already been successfully deflected and we’ve barely gotten started. I don’t even know how to have that conversation at this point.

Just to be a little more specific, those traits are part of what’s known as the dark triad, which include psychopathy, narcissism, and machiavellianism. These traits are generally related to cluster B personality disorders, among which antisocial personality disorder has the strongest correlation with psychopathy.
They could connect it to the Internet, I guess.
