Account abandoned due to dbzer0 members disparaging me for sharing my experiences and trying to provide interesting leftist OC
I don’t believe the people saying “just wait and see” are genuine users. I have a hard time fathoming that after Meta’s atrocious history, as well as the history of what happens when large corporations get involved – I simply can’t believe these are more than paid shill accounts.
Or maybe I’m the one who’s naive, thinking that people can’t possibly be so foolish…
Thanks, I actually forgot that one can check!
lemmy.dbzer0.com also blocked Threads
This is what it’s about, right here. I wish more people would understand this. This is not some loose anti-coporate sentiment or senseless alarm sounding. We have example after example of how corporations like Meta, Microsoft, and Google leverage their power to consume and destroy. To say “we just need to be proactive about stopping them” is naive. We’ve said that so many times, and every time we’ve lost.
The only way to win is not to play their game. We can’t let them in in the first place.
Edit: a word
I’m onboard with this as well. I can’t imagine this instance would federeate with Threads, and I respect the admins here a lot, but I’d lose that respect and trust immediately if we aren’t smart enough to defederate from Threads. We’ve seen what happens when these tech giants get their claws in anything.
The more I think about it, you’re right. Having email in the hands of a few for-profit tech giants has really damaged the entire concept of email. Every day, I see comments about people whose unique email servers are automatically filtered by Google and Microsoft’s platforms. It would be massively beneficial to block all the big companies and have a healthier ecosystem like we have here in the fediverse.
Super useful, thanks!
This is actually a perfect example of why we need to archive these things. Don’t let corporations try to rewrite history wtf
It’s got a lot of tankies. Also, they’ll ban you if you say you hate tankies because they love tankies on .ml
Probably the same type of person who’d complain about reddit being too “left leaning.” We’re not talking about people with a reasonable or healthy array of takes.
This game looks darkly hilarious. Has anyone played it?
I guess he hasn’t heard of, I think it was r/AHS, that did exactly this routinely to get subreddits they didn’t like shut down.
You are a buffoon if you believe this. I was a regular on r/AHS, and this was an obvious lie.
I’d say a lot of users, perhaps even most, on lemmy.world are just fine, but I’ve seen some wildly bad behavior from their mods (e.g., one of their politics mod making a mod-flaired comment about how “The United States is not a racist nation,” like what)

That’s cool and all, and I’m sure it’s not intentional, but the rest of the discourse just makes me feel like a failure
I’m always too poor to participate in any personal finance community. The things they discuss in those spaces is wayyyy above me
I’m surprised what is, though. One of the movies I checked out was Knives Out.
Sometimes it brings me fleeting moments of doomerism, where I think maybe it will be good when we humans are gone
