Yes, the airline is squeezing every penny they can out of everything they can, and they’re doing it because consumers are dramatically more sensitive to price than quality. When you look at the booking selection and the available flights are all more or less going to get the job done, you and just about everyone else will pick the one that costs $20 less, completely ignoring the First Class option that costs $800+ more. It’s why everything seems to be shitty and cheap these days, quality goods and experiences still exist, but we don’t pay for quality when the economy option costs a third as much.

This has been my concern too. It’s great that we’re seeing some specific cases where Linux benchmarks faster than Windows, but that doesn’t mean a damn thing if the one thing I’m trying to play just full on won’t work.

Telling me that I can just also run Windows is counterproductive. If Windows will do everything I want, and Linux will do only some of what I want, now you’re trying to sell me on increased complexity and difficulties and learning a whole new system, without actually getting rid of the problems that come with running Windows in the first place.

I do. While I don’t end up using headphones terribly often, I still prefer wired ones when I do. I would lose bluetooth earbuds in a heartbeat, and it wouldn’t be worth the expense to replace them.

This is literally a discussion about operating systems, and how Windows is about to do something that will directly push people into needing or choosing a new one. Pretty much. I understand the impulse to think he has to have some secret plan, some rational explanation for his behavior. I used to think the same thing, that there was some way he would actually make money from destroying the company, but no. No, he’s just an impetuous, impulsive idiot who tricked himself into having to buy the company at meme stock prices, and is going to burn the whole thing to the ground purely because he is, in fact, a dumbass.

It seems to me like someone in the PR department decided they needed to “try something new,” and then didn’t actually run the idea by anyone who could say this is a stupid plan. Someone on the community management team got a promotion and thought it was time to make a bold move, and they were absolutely wrong.

Perhaps I should have clarified that for the sake of discussion I was taking OP’s comment at face value, but the essentials are the same either way. Whether it’s a chain-wide declaration that napkins are done, a single store doing away with them, or just a sufficiently casual attitude to restocking them that allowed them to run out in the first place, the math in the end is all the same. They can and will let their service get a little shittier, because they know they’ll save more money than they lose.

I think it’s less that we’re expected to sympathize, and more just that they’ve realized enough people will tolerate it. With OP’s example, Taco Bell has clearly decided that whatever business they may lose due to people deciding to not go to Taco Bell anymore because of the lack of napkins will be less than whatever they save by not stocking napkins anymore.

And they’re right.

Don’t get me wrong, it’s a shitty thing to do, but between people in general not realizing that this place doesn’t even have napkins anymore, and people deciding they still want semi-delicious garbage tacos anyway, they’re really not going to see a big dip in revenue. They’ve simply realized that they really can just make their presented experience a little shittier just to save some money.
