It’s totally fine. Much easier than purpleheart or padauk. Purpleheart is brittle. Padauk’s sawdust is like herpes.

Burl can break apart more easily because bark inclusions are often a problem. So that makes it more difficult sometimes. The wood is not really any harder or softer than other wood.
They really don’t care about mods, do they?
Personal finance
Thank you. I make several things per week, but I don’t want to flood the community with everything I make.
This is my homemade setup. I use a $300 portable engraver.
Prefinish, then stain. Or just gel stain.
Is padauk dust something wild?
Sharp tools and high speed.
Someone on imgur mentioned ant farm arena.
The spalting is confusing
Yes, I burn one image and then rotate the bowl 10°. The indexer allows precise degree adjustments that are repeatable.
The line is a groove from a chisel and then a wire pressed into the groove while the bowl spun fast - burning the groove.
You can get super fine detail with a wood burner. The advantage of a laser is time and repeatability.
It’s a laserpecker pro 1. It’s about $280 and can engrave about a 4" square area.
I put together an indexer and a chuck along with a jig to hold everything. So the laser is simple, but I set it up to enable things like this.
Thank you!
Expect to just break even at first. Pricing is hard. Finding where you sell well is hard. Get an app and card reader like Square and enter your Venmo and Cash sales into it so you can track your sales over time. It takes a while to figure out what people will pay, where they look for stuff like yours and what seasons do best for you.
I dislike my sign. I need a better setup. So… I agree.
Thank you. I make wooden bowls and a few other things.
I mostly only use two finishes. Pure tung oil and a french polish of shellac and boiled linseed oil.
Another thing about Teslas is that even a slight fender bender that does no damage to an older car will cause damage. The bumpers are full of sensors, all pastic, and repairs are expensive.
I wonder if more minor accidents are reported in Teslas causing the numbers to be higher?
