I’ve had two in the span of about 16 years. Only reason I got a new one was because I couldn’t find decent drivers for it for Windows 8. Considering with HP and Epson inkjets they wouldn’t even last 2 years, 8+ years is a good deal. Brother printers are excellent.
They do it because they can get away with it. Zero consequences, and they still have a legion of customers who are happy to piss their money down the drain on egregiously overpriced ink.

I wouldn’t necessarily say ‘stupid’. But lacking in sufficient empathy? Fearful of different people (to the point of being irrationally hostile to them)? Feel entitled? Are smug and sanctimonious about their beliefs? Get to caught up on what other people do with their lives and want you control them?..

I still prefer and regularly use wired headphones. More specifically, 100% of the time on my phone, and about 25% of the time on my tablet. I probably listen to audio on my phone a couple of hours a week. So not a ton, but equally also a fair amount.
My subconscious autocorrected that the first time I read it. It was only after reading your comment and going back to look again that I realized they had not written “There are”.
It’s pretty good. Not incredibly compelling IMO, but enjoyable enough. I haven’t read the books so I can speak to how it compares to those.
Good (very small) cast, with Lena Headey and the other main actor do a good job. Dialogue fluctuates between okay and weak. It feels more of a psychological thriller than outright sci-fi (despite the setting), but that’s fine.
The most recent episode (which provides some historical context to the story) was very contributed plot-wise and had very weak, throwaway characters. It was definitely the worst episode yet.
I was pretty active for about 10-12 years. Then things gradually started changing. As the platform got bigger it also got more toxic. I found myself commenting less and less because when I did I’d often be met by trolls or contrarians who didn’t want to have a discussion in good faith.
Outside a group of fellow mods who I got to know very well (and who I spoke to more outside of reddit anyway) I was disengaging from reddit, and I was getting disillusioned with it.
Lemmy feels a lot like reddit from around 2009/2010. In some ways it feels even better: it doesn’t have that underlying unpleasant corporate odor, and you have more confidence you are talking to a real person who is what they say they are, instead of a bot or a troll.
Saying reddit crushed the protest is accurate in some ways. But the next question is: what did they lose in doing so? I think they lost a lot of their charm, their character, their very essence.
I was already sniffing around for a new reddit before the whole protest thing. Turns out Lemmy is what I had been looking for off and on for the last couple of years.
I’ll take 1.5m or 150k or 20k or whatever the actual user count is over the shit show that has been reddit for the past few years.

Fuck those horrible people. They don’t deserve to be anyone’s friends with such a shitty attitude.
That’s interesting about the reactions. I’m an Android (Pixel) user, and I swear when using the standard SMS app on my phone, from some iOS users I see their reactions as an emoji, while from others it does the “[user] liked your message” thing. Could it also be related to the version of iOS that’s being used on the other end?
My mum sent some little Advent calendars to us for my kids. And to my surprise the doors basically come off when you open them (they are heavily perforated). So that ended the conundrum for this year.
Or older entertainment traditionalists firmly stuck in the era of variety hours and then importance of “big music numbers to give the audience the ol’ razzle-dazzle!” Hell, some of them probably never got out of a nostalgia for vaudeville.
Or both that decrepit mindset plus cocaine.

Reminds me of the IM wars back in the latter 90s / early 00s. At one point, briefly, AIM and Trillian were pushing updates to negate each other every few hours.
Moon - really good psychological element and great acting.
Pandorum - fun (and a bit hammy) action horror romp.
Twelve Monkeys - really tight and suspenseful plot with great acting.
Being John Malcovich - not sure if this fits in, but a great mind-bender of a sci-fi movie.
