They are, that’s the motivation behind this. You still need to convert the high rpm of an electric motor to a high torque output at a continuous speed though. But this will open doors to smaller motors for each wheel and torque vectoring

Citizen Kane was a not-so-subtle criticism of William Randolph Hearst to begin with. History really do be repeating itself.
others have answered but another option is SyncThing which has a benefit of working across multiple devices including mobile

So many improvements from when I played back at launch. The one thing that still bothers me is how boring the high difficulty modes are. In the Witcher 3 the tanky enemies encouraged you to research them and build effective counter measures. But tanky enemies in cyberpunk just feel like a chore/break the immersion. Instead of encouraging you to explore more of what the game has to offer, it limits you by making some play styles essentially obsolete. Def recommend lower difficulties and just focusing on enjoying the story and feeling like a god. I hope difficulty is the next thing they rework
Perhaps even a PEBCAK error.
I’d maybe even add a ban for in-home use around children under a child abuse clause. Very hard to enforce of course but I can think of some meaningful ways to make it not worth the risk for most people.
I’m also quite biased in the opposite direction. I just quit (4 months) vaping and have had some strong opinions that my own stupid choices should be mine alone. I draw a hard line when my choices become your consequences.
But frankly, us both being biased in opposite directions and still agreeing on potentially meaningful bans just tells me that it should be easier to get done in a way that might actually be effective.
One thing that concerns me is how a ban might impact the homeless population. It’s already basically illegal to be homeless in many places and the rates of smokers among the homeless is probably significantly higher. It could end up being yet another thing enforcement uses to harass people.
I assume you would prefer to see stricter legislation/enforcement about smoking in public versus outright sales bans, correct? I can totally get on board with that.
On the subject of games, I highly recommend autonauts (scratch programming as core gameplay) and Turing Complete (perhaps better suited for 11-15 year olds. It may be a tad dense for an 8 year old).
If you read that report you’ll find their conclusion is that plastic marked as recyclable is not being recycled. Not that it can’t be recycled. Merely that it isn’t. Very big difference. This is a good piece of investigative journalism on the topic.
I’m already on board. But I consider myself pretty strongly pro-education. I’m thinking about how to get my short-sighted countrymen on board so that we can see some real change. Education has been underfunded for the entire duration of my lifetime and I’d really like to see it improved. Unfortunately, most people don’t think the way we do and have been ignoring these arguments for decades. If they’ve already made up their mind I figure we should give them a new proposal is all. At this point I’m willing to try anything.
That poor animal displayed fear of the humans that tortured her. How could anyone defend this. I get it, implants are super cool in sci-fi but jesus christ. If they have to be researched this way then they shouldn’t be researched. And if they don’t then this is just profit motivated medical torture. Horrifying.
Exactly. Just to hammer home your point about free-market thinking on public services, corporate education explicitly tries to be competitive to acquire the best talent. Even if we match the corpo wages for public education, they would just increase it again to be more competitive. It’s a fools errand to play the market with our public services. Education is a fundamental institution in our society. We know they are lacking resources, so we should increase their allocation. It really doesn’t need to be more complicated than that.
incredibly expensive for government and absolutely free of charge to its citizens
So, expensive for me who is already completely priced out of ever responsibly having children. We all have a responsibility to the future generations so I’d still vote for it. But oof. It is a tough sell to place even more tax burden on people who will never realize the benefits.
I know it isn’t a popular opinion but wouldn’t it be cheaper and more beneficial to low income communities to invest in more robust online education? 95% of my public education was from Khan Academy and other learning services/pre-recorded material anyways, even from my amazing above-and-beyond teachers. And it was more effective than a live lecture anyways (as someone with adhd it’s a life saver to be able to rewind when I notice myself drifting away). At a certain point it gets good enough that even good teachers use it as a first pass and then focus in on problem areas/students. It seems a lot more scalable to me. Or better yet, why not both? Fewer teachers of higher quality (read:pay) handling more total students, but with a much lower percentage of students that need individual attention. We pay them like babysitters because that’s how our system is set up to utilize them. Give them the tools to be more effective and tax payers will (might) be a lot more willing to compensate them appropriately. Not to mention the benefit to students who can all move at their own pace rather than at the pace of the slowest student. It also makes remedial material easier for students with special circumstances.
I’m just curious but how/why would competitive pricing be illegal but not what Epic does with aggressive exclusivity agreements/offers? If Steam wanted to, could they keep prices the same to stay above the law but then use their overwhelming market share + capital to secure exclusivity across the board? I feel like the end results would be the same, securing a monopoly at the cost of short term profitability.
Many people find content they enjoy to become more enjoyable when they can empathize with other people who also enjoy it. I don’t but somebody is up voting those comments so I assume. Not like it hurts me so meh
bro what
My philosophy is that it’s wrong to assume that I am entitled to anything that I didn’t pay for or create. It’s also wrong to eat meat but I still enjoy a good burger. My philosophy is that instead of bending over backwards to make whatever you do the “right” thing, you should simply acknowledge that you are not a wholly good entity. For as long as burgers remain accessible and tasty and the suffering of animals is out my sight, it’s going to remain worth it to me to accept that a little part of me is kind of shitty. For as long as the value (ux, price, accessibility, catalogue variety, longevity) heavily favors piracy, I will support my friend that pirates (not me ofc). It doesn’t bother me one bit if you steal from Walmart, but don’t pretend that just because they are a megacorp that you have no moral responsibility for actual theft. It’s diminished, but it’s still there. You still did a bad thing. And I support you if you want to say “so what, I don’t care about them. They are greedy and they have enough.” but I get really irritated by people who think “there’s essentially no difference… they don’t even notice… it’s just a statistic” stop trying to make yourself feel better. By lying to yourself you permanently degrade your own moral judgement and if that’s an opinion you willingly share with others then you become very easy to identify as someone with compromised morals. Just my two cents as someone with pirate friends (never me I pinky promise).
I’d go a step further and say it should be capable of an industry standard communication protocol from the beginning and every device that has a ‘root’ or equivalent elevated access mode should be user recoverable (not easily necessarily, but there shouldn’t be any specific counter measures to prevent it). EOL unlocking would be a good first step towards that goal.
That might be true about DNA data but these places gather every public genealogy record available. If your country has a census, for example, they probably already know more about your family then you do.
